What is an ERP System?

An ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system is software that manages core business processes - inventory, procurement, finance, and operations - in one integrated system.

What ERP does

ERP is a single source of truth for your operations. Instead of inventory in one spreadsheet, orders in another system, and financials in a third, ERP connects them: an order automatically reduces inventory, triggers a purchase order when stock runs low, and creates the accounting entry. It replaces the coordination work between disconnected tools.

Off-the-shelf ERPs

SAP and Oracle are enterprise-grade, expensive, and require significant implementation effort. NetSuite is mid-market, cloud-based, and more accessible. Odoo is open-source with a modular structure. These tools are designed for generic business processes - customizing them to match your specific workflow is often painful and expensive.

When custom ERP makes sense

When your workflow is genuinely unique and off-the-shelf tools require extensive workarounds that your team fights every day. When the licensing cost of an off-the-shelf solution exceeds what a custom build would cost over 3 years. When you need integrations with industry-specific tools that ERPs do not natively support.

What we build for clients

We have built production ERP systems for a construction company (project cost tracking, subcontractor management, invoicing), a logistics provider (shipment tracking, driver scheduling, client reporting), and a manufacturing operation (production reporting, inventory management, quality control). These are custom systems built to match how the business actually works.

How to know if you need ERP or just better automation

If your problem is that specific tasks are manual and slow, start with workflow automation. If your problem is that data is fragmented across systems and no one has a reliable view of operations, you probably need something closer to ERP. Book a call and we will tell you which applies to your situation.
