iGaming Compliance
What is a responsible gaming gate?
A responsible gaming gate is a hard compliance check that sits between any retention model output and any outbound contact, blocking messages to players who have self-excluded or set limits.
Why it must be a gate, not a filter
A filter is applied when a list is built and can be bypassed, overridden, or go stale between build and send. A gate is checked at the moment of sending, on every message, with no override path. The difference is the difference between a control that satisfies an audit and one that does not.
What it checks
Self-exclusion status across all its variants and durations. Active deposit, loss, and time-played limits. Cooling-off periods. Marketing consent state and its scope per channel. Regional communication restrictions. Each of these is read from the operator's own platform as source of truth - never from a cached copy inside the retention system.
The interaction with scoring
A churn or reactivation model does not know or care about compliance state, and it should not - mixing the two makes both harder to reason about. The model ranks, the gate blocks. Keeping them separate means you can audit the gate independently and change the model without re-certifying compliance behaviour.
Why it comes up in vendor selection
Retention vendors that run outbound on the operator's behalf without a live gate against the operator's platform are a regulatory exposure the operator carries, not the vendor. Any serious deployment reads RG flags directly and logs every block for the audit trail.
